A Darling sweet shop in Seward gains local, national fans
The Darlings have operated Sweet Darlings, Seward's gourmet sweet shop, for the past 10 years out of their historic Brown and Hawkins building on Fourth Avenue. Sweet Darlings is one of Seward's local businesses committed to remaining open during the winter months, a sometimes difficult endeavor. But Sweet Darlings is a veritable one-stop shop for any sweet tooth's needs. Handmade chocolates, truffles, berry bark and several flavors of fudge, made from all original recipes, are on display in glass cases under the store's front counter. Seemingly endless flavors of hand-pulled saltwater taffy, made in the back of the shop with what is believed to be the only taffy machine in Alaska, fill baskets near the front door. A menu on the wall behind the counter lists coffee and espresso drinks, and packages of flavored popcorn line shelves.
