Folgers Raising Coffee Prices

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Cincinnati-based Procter & Gamble Co (PG) raised prices of Folgers' ground coffee and also its gourmet coffee line, effective Wednesday, reflecting higher arabica prices in recent months, a company spokesman said.

Folgers hiked its ground coffee price by 10 cents per 11.5-to-13-ounce can or about 4%. The company raised its gourmet-line or higher-end coffee by 20 cents per 11.5% ounce or 5%.

Increases were attributed to "a sustained rise in green coffee prices in the arabica market," company spokesman Lars Atorf said.

Folgers last raised prices in October, and at that time cited higher robusta coffee prices. Folgers uses robusta beans from Asia and Brazil in its arabica blends, and uses nearly 100% robustas in its instant coffee.
