SENIOR SCENE: The Coffee Pot
An electric coffee maker sits on our counter. It is similar to coffee makers all over this country. To make the coffee, you add water to the reservoir on top; place coffee in a filter in the cup below the reservoir; and turn it on. In a few minutes, hot, fragrant coffee begins dripping into the pot. The coffee it produces is adequate, but not gourmet. We have had a coffee pot, just like the one described for many years. However, it is not the same coffee pot, and that is the problem.These simple coffee makers seem to have a limited life. After a year or so, no matter how carefully you clean out the coffee maker, they slow down. In our area, with the high mineral content in the water, they clog up. Even without the water problem, they stop working in some way. Sometimes they don't stop working, they just work very slowly.
